On Saturday after cheering on Agatha and meeting my dog bloggie friends Archie, Toffee and Riley, I had even more fun. Can you believe it??? MORE FUN?????
Since we were in the area, we stopped at Wachusett Mountain! It is a great skiing area filled with hiking trails during the off season. Here's proof right at the base. See how I tamed the polar bear next to me! Hee hee what a silly bench.
I looked up some tidbits to share with you from my norwoodwikipedia:
- Wachusett is the Algonquin Indian Word for "the Great Hill"
- The first skiing trails on Wachusett Mountain were cut by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930’s (Pine Hill Trail 1934; Balance Rock Trail 1937).
- Highest mountain in Massachusetts east of the Connecticut River.
- Largest “Monadnock” (Indian word for mountain that stands alone) east of the Berkshires.
- Home to the only known Old Growth Forest east of the Connecticut River. (Some of the trees here are over 350 years old!)
- Panoramic 360-degree views from the summit; including view of Boston Skyline to the east.
Here's the lodge and a view of the mountain from below. Okay that's enough! Let's get hiking please. Hmm I may need some music. Nope moving to fast... can't sing. - Largest “Monadnock” (Indian word for mountain that stands alone) east of the Berkshires.

I decided to follow the Balance Rock Trail!
Look at that.. I know why they call it Balance Rock trail???!!! My norwoodwiki says glacier activity moved these boulders into this position. Who am I to argue? Unless Fred Flintstone knows otherwise I will have to agree.

Oh I mastered a new pose. A slight lean back with shoulder raised. Nice?-huh? Don't worry there's more from this hike.. to be continued.
It's about a 105 degrees where we are! I am jealous of this great place. I would love to take Africa for a walk there!
